Future Seed's permaculture training is divided into a number of comprehensive units to give the learner a broad understanding of the principles of growing food in a sustainable, environmentally friendly way.

Year 1

Certificate in Permaculture

This is a year-long training program that covers all aspects of permaculture, which includes both theory and practical units of permaculture. Each unit include a practical assessment.  Upon completion, learners will be able to implement their own food garden for personal food production and/or for sale. Partnerships will also be created on the farm for learners interested in specialization (e.g. beekeeping, fish farming, mushroom farming, etc.). Learners will be supported and encouraged to form co-operatives for income generation to become self-reliant.

Year 2

Training Trainers

This is a yearlong program to teach learners to become permaculture trainers. The Certificate in Permaculture is a pre-requisite.   Upon completion, trainers will be able to train communities, oversee food gardens in schools, and assist new learners in forming co-operatives.

Year 3

Diploma in Permaculture Farming

(pre-requisite Year 2)

This is a yearlong program for learners who want to farm on a large-scale. The program includes business skills and tools required to sell produce to local co-ops and chain stores.  Learners will be assisted by Future Seed. Upon completion, graduates will be able to meet the South African government’s vision to create viable and sustainable black farmers for government land reform programs.

Specialization

Specialized courses will also be offered. Permaculture includes many different areas of expertise; learners may wish to specialize in a specific element of permaculture such as aquaculture, bee keeping, composting, worm farming, etc.  Learners will be assisted in the specialization of their choice with financial models and business acumen to create small micro businesses.
